We have some new features coming to the forum and I wanted to take a second and explain them to you.
First, we recently turned on the Invite System within this forum. You, or any member of this forum can now click 'Send Invites' (located at the top left of your forum, on your user bar), to go to a page that will allow you to invite your friends from gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail, aol mail, and a number of other email services. You can send them a short email, inviting them onto our forum. The more the merrier I say. Invite some of those folks you have in your online address books to join in on the fun here on our forum.
Secondly, another new feature will be installed really soon. We'll be turning on the 'Daily Digest' which will notify a person on replies to topics they participated in. This is a great feature to know that when you start a topic or respond to a topic it will notify you of any new activity in that particular topic. This way if the topic gets moved or it is just hard to find but you started it or responded to it, it will email you along with a link directly to this subject for an easy find.
Matt, those both sound like great features. I know I really talk up our Club, Tracks, Hobby Stores and the hobby in general to others. I hope others do the same. Are you proud of this hobby? Do you want to encourage others to join in on the fun? What a great way to introduce RC to others. Over the past two months, I have had Adam Drake, Kevin Gahan, Richard Saxton (these names you recognize) go to our web site. These are just a few. I have used this web site to benefit our club and promote racing to all the tracks we have including Koscuisko, Seminary and Nitro's indoor track. Our hobby is growing and we need to get the word out in order to pick up new members or new racers. I don't know if you know how powerful the web site is, but believe me we owe Matt a debt of gratutide for doing this for us and for potential RC'ers. Get your friends, you ememies, you relatives, anyone you know to take a look around on our site. You will be surprised at the people who will inquire about the hobby if you do. Thanks Matt for your contribution to the hobby with the time you spend on keeping this site up and running. It is great.
Did any of you check your email this morning??? Tell me what you think about the "Daily Digest" email that you got. If you wish to cut that feature off you can.
Personally it lacked enough detail to make it worth while to me.
All it said was what thread and how many replies. Might be nice for people who don't use the forum to see what new events were posted, but I think they'll get lost in the chatter anyway.
And using the "See all unread posts" just lead to a list of threads w/new posts, not just the unread posts. I'd rather use "Recent Posts".
That's just me though; I'm a forum participant. So my point of view is skewed from that angle.
I agree, it is a new feature that Lefora has distributed to all the users and I don't know that it is anything like they had discussed to all the admins before deploying it. It was my understanding that it would be an email "per post" that would direct you as a participant to that thread. I will probably unsubscribe just because I stay on here contantly and don't really need the updates. If it was set up differently (which I have no control over) I would be more apt to keep it.
